Equality Objectives

Our Equality Objectives 2025-2026

  1. Improve Attendance for Vulnerable Student Groups

We aim to actively reduce attendance gaps between different student groups, with a particular focus on vulnerable students—especially those eligible for free school meals (FSM), and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who are also eligible for FSM.

Why this matters:

Attendance is strongly linked to academic achievement, mental and physical wellbeing, and overall engagement. Data shows that students eligible for FSM have lower attendance rates compared to their peers, and those with SEND who are also eligible for FSM represent an especially vulnerable group.

Our goal:

Increase attendance rates for students eligible for FSM year-on-year, reaching at least 90% by the end of the 2025–2026 academic year.

  1. Promote Inclusion and Diversity

We will prepare our young people for life in a diverse society by promoting inclusion, and celebrating diversity, through assemblies, guest speakers, enrichment activities, and awareness-raising initiatives.

Why this matters:

Our school is located in rural Shropshire, an area with limited ethnic diversity. As a result, pupils may have limited exposure to cultural practices and celebrations beyond their local community; however, they are growing up in a multicultural society and we want to prepare them for the wider world.

Our goal:

Enhance students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes so they appreciate and value difference and diversity.

  1. Engagement

Through our Stretton Baccalaureate we will monitor participation and equality of access and engagement, and encourage all students to take part in a wide range of enrichment and extra-curricular activities.

Why this matters:

It is important for young people to develop personal interests and skills so all students can experience success and belonging, engage with both the school and wider community, and be responsible and respectful citizens.

Our goal:

For 95% of our students to achieve their Bronze Stretton Baccalaureate award by July 2026
